S1E and McBreen Deliver Complex Pharmaceutical Drain Rehabilitation Using the UV XAIR Lining System.

Compact UV curing technology overcame challenging pipe configurations, delivering a durable drain rehabilitation solution for harsh industrial environments.

S1E Ltd worked alongside McBreen Enviro UK to successfully rehabilitate a complex industrial drainage network within a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant using the UV XAIR Lining System and 3D BRAWOLINER®.

The drainage system had deteriorated due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures and aggressive chemicals, resulting in leaks that forced the plant to halt production. With the loss of production carrying significant financial implications, a fast, reliable rehabilitation solution was required to restore the drainage network and allow operations to resume as quickly as possible.

The Challenge: Complex Pipework and Demanding Conditions

The project presented a number of technical challenges beyond the harsh operating environment. Around 90% of the drainage runs began with a P-trap, followed by multiple bends and, in some cases, changes in pipe diameter. These conditions made liner installation and curing particularly demanding, requiring a system capable of navigating complex pipework without compromising installation quality.

Before work began, sample sections of pipework were sent to S1E for testing. Following extensive evaluation and consultation with resin manufacturers, S1E identified the optimum combination of 3D BRAWOLINER® and a high chemical and temperature-resistant UV resin to meet the plant's operational requirements.

The Solution: Compact UV Technology for Challenging Installations

The liners were inverted through the P-traps before being cured using the UV XAIR Lining System. Thanks to its compact curing head, the system was able to negotiate the P-traps, multiple bends and diameter transitions with ease, ensuring a consistent cure throughout the installation.

The same UV XAIR system was also used to cure the larger main trunk sewer liners on site, highlighting the versatility of the technology across a wide range of pipe diameters and applications.

The compact nature of the UV XAIR system also proved invaluable during the installation. Without the need for large air chiller units or generators, the equipment could be easily transported and manoeuvred both inside and outside the production facility. Its single curing head, capable of covering multiple pipe diameters, simplified the installation process and enabled the team to move efficiently from one line to the next.

The Results: Efficient Rehabilitation and Production Restored

The project commenced in March and was completed on schedule in May, successfully rehabilitating the drainage infrastructure despite the demanding site conditions.

By combining the flexibility of 3D BRAWOLINER® with the compact and versatile UV XAIR Lining System, the team was able to overcome complex pipe configurations while delivering a durable solution designed to withstand the plant's aggressive operating environment.

The successful completion of the project enabled the pharmaceutical facility to return to full production, minimising further downtime and demonstrating how modern UV curing technology can provide an effective solution for even the most challenging industrial drainage rehabilitation projects.

S1E Ltd continues to support contractors with specialist trenchless rehabilitation solutions, providing innovative equipment, technical expertise and training to help deliver reliable, high-quality installations across a wide range of applications.
